Check Yer Head

newearth.jpgOk, I’m now hooked on Oprah’s Book of the month: “A New Earth: Awakening To Your Life’s Purpose”.

I’ve been seeing all about it on Oprah for the last couple of weeks, then it hit me. I need to do this.

You see, even tho’ you know me as some dumb-ass morning show host, I actually am quite spiritual. I read a lot of Deepak Chopra and try to meditate every day. Wanna check it out, go to www.oprah.com.

Try this trick: Say to yourself, “Am I Breathing right now?” and take ten seconds to concentrate on your breathing. Did you notice that all your thoughts went away for just a second? You can do this throughout the day. It gives you a real blissful feeling when you just stay in the moment.

Try it now and let me know what it did to you.

Hey Scott, if you like reading books by Deepak Chopra maybe you’ll like Dr. Wayne Dyer. Whenever I’m going through a tough time in life I go back and read his books about spirituality and finding “inner peace”. Check it out…..He’s awesome.

Hey Scott, I just tried what you suggested. I totally felt….no stress. That was very nice for a brief moment. I need to get back into meditating, and focus on my needs once in a while. That’s a tough one for us single parents, isn’t it? I promise you, I am gonna try & fit it into my schedule.

    Scott-
I am so glad I read your blog. I work at RIT and right now is a very stressful time of the year. I took a moment to concentrate on my breathing and I felt a 100% better. Thanks for the suggestion! Also, after work to day, I am off to buy A New Earth!
On a side note.. I have been listening to you for over 20 years…you are the best thing Rochester has to offer in radio…keep up the good work and thanks for making my mornings at work go by alot quicker!

    Hi Scott!

Finally made it too this blog. I am the Debi that spoke to you about The New Earth on the radio. I felt bad that you thought I thought there was something wrong with you. I am sorry. I didn’t mean that at all.
It’s just you have been through so much in life that you always talk about on the radio. Divorce, Girl troubles, contract on and on. I’ve been through alot and I know how much this book has helped me so I just think it might help you to feel better and not worry so much. But maybe you don’t worry?
Have you seen any of the classes from Oprah and Eckhart?
Let me know what you think about those, you know my myspace page.

i should meditate, i’m so high strung and up tight it might do me some good…..but i have to ask what if the answer to the breathing question is no, i’m not breathing…shouldn’t all my thoughts go away then too? for some reason i’m more uptight now..gee whiz…. (just kidding its really a cool trick) omg, i just realized i’m going thru and reading all your blogs and having conversations with myself pretty much. i seriously need to meditate.
